The controls provide a high level of integration with the Visual Studio IDE, allowing developers to easily add Spread functionality to their applications while taking advantage of the Visual Studio Feature Pack. The controls are also fully extensible, which means that developers can create and customize their own custom spreadsheet controls. The new spreadsheet controls can be embedded directly into WPF and Silverlight applications, allowing users to easily view and manipulate data in the familiar Excel-like user interface. The Spread WPF-Silverlight product suite also includes a toolset that allows developers to quickly configure and deploy the controls to their applications. This toolset provides the capability to manage the control configurations from a central location, where the configurations can be managed by users or the development team. The toolset also provides the capability to roll back to a previous configuration. The toolset is available for download at www.grapecity.com/spread/Silverlight/index.aspx .

The XML configuration files created by the toolset can be imported into the Spread WPF-Silverlight product suite. This allows developers to create their own custom configurations. The controls can be configured using these files, which can be provided by the customer or developed internally.

A SpreadSheet also supports drag and drop. A SpreadSheet can be configured to accept user drag and drop events for rows, columns, and cells. The data services can also be configured to support drag and drop of data.
