To download Message Analyzer, sign in to your Microsoft account, go to the Downloads tab , and then download the appropriate Microsoft Message Analyzer client software. After you download Message Analyzer, use the Message Analyzer setup wizard to guide you through the installation, configuration, and setup of the tool. After the setup wizard is complete, connect to the Internet to complete the installation. If you do not have an account, create one before installing the software. You can then sign in to your account after the installation is complete.
When you have a network monitor which you can use for a long time, consider using Message Analyzer to manage your existing network monitor. By using Message Analyzer, you can import and export your data, as well as configure Message Analyzer to capture, store, and process your data. Message Analyzer also enables you to use your existing network monitor tool to configure the Message Analyzer settings and to connect to the Message Analyzer service. After the connection is made, Message Analyzer uses your existing network monitor tool to capture the data.
Message Analyzer sends and receives network data using any available channel. You can also use Message Analyzer as a network sniffer because it supports interfaces for network data capture. For example, you can capture network data using a data tap, a packet analyzer, an Ethernet tap, or a managed switch. In addition, Message Analyzer supports several data collection methods. You can collect data as it is sent or received by a host or device. You can also collect data from remote network devices using TCP, UDP, or ICMP.

Message Analyzer automatically creates a log file for each capture scenario. You can use the log file to perform analysis. At a minimum, you can use the log file to examine network statistics, monitor system status, and troubleshoot network issues. You can use the log file to examine traffic captured on a LAN or a remote network. You can also use the log file to troubleshoot network events such as protocol-dependent errors, performance issues, and high network utilization. When performing a network capture, you also have the option to perform a live capture or load a list of archived messages from multiple data sources.
