In its new Mac incarnation, Office 2019 is a lot like Office 2016, so much so that the new interface doesn't seem like a whole new Office. It is, but the new interface is more than a skin. It's a different user experience altogether, which is designed to deliver a streamlined workflow and common tasks within Microsoft Office.
The new operating system means a new version of Office for Mac users. Like the Windows version, it comes in three bundles, Home, Home & Business, and Office 365. The Home and Home & Business editions are both free, but subscribers get much more than the base Home edition; they can access the premium Office 365 add-ons, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, for no additional fee. The Office 365 subscription also includes Office for iPad, as well as the latest Office mobile apps -- including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote -- on iOS.
Office 2019 for Mac is a full-featured office suite, not just a new version of Office 2016. It's a familiar user experience. Office 2016 has been my main computer office suite since 2011 or 2012, when I switched to it from OOo 3.0.5. The suite became even more familiar to me when I started writing professionally, using Office 365. I use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint every day, and use Word and Excel on both my Mac and Windows machines.
Microsoft's Office 365 Business Premium subscription that includes Office 2019 includes cloud storage for SharePoint and OneDrive and a unified communications app called Lync. But in Office 2019, Microsoft dropped the Lync costs and the SharePoint storage, instead selling the Office 365 Business Premium at $6.50 per user, per month or $70 per user, per year. That's still a lot cheaper than before, but not free. There are special Office 365 for Business plans that include additional cloud storage or other services.
On the Mac, you can use the included Apple-approved Magic Mouse or the Bluetooth wireless Magic Trackpad. As in previous versions of Office, there's no support for Windows or Microsoft Surface-style keyboards or mice. The one exception is that the Office 2019 keyboard for Mac supports a Microsoft Surface-style keyboard, though you'll have to buy the Surface-style keyboard separately.
With Office 2019, Microsoft has also reduced the cloud storage for the Basic business plan by reducing the free 2 terabytes to 1TB. It has also reduced the price of the Home plan from $5 per user per month or $50 per user per year to $4.50 per user per month or $70 per user per year.
The app is targeted at the enterprise, and you need an Office 365 subscription to use it. To buy the apps on these platforms, you need to be a subscriber to a $5 per month Office 365 for Business plan. If you aren't already a subscriber, you can try it for 30 days for free. During the trial, you have all the features available, including access to all the Office 2019 apps. 827ec27edc
