haven't seen this on your site, so you might be interested to know that Doug Adams' long-awaited book "The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films: A Comprehensive Guide to Howard Shore's Scores" was released in the European Union last week, and will be released in the United States on Tuesday, October 5. There will be a book-signing and Q&A at the Barnes & Noble at Lincoln Triangle in New York on the 7th, preceding the premiere of "The Two Towers" live at Radio City Music Hall on October 8-9. A few features of the book that may be of interest to your readers:* Officially licensed, with a foreward by composer Howard Shore and an introduction by LOTR screenwriter/producer Fran Walsh.* A gorgeous hardcover volume featuring 400 pages of engaging commentary and analysis, intricate enough to satisfy the trained musical ear, but written in a way that's accessible to the average reader.* Numerous music examples, in the form of thematic extracts, composer sketches, and full manuscript pages.* The complete choral texts used in the films/scores ... that means plenty of poetry by Tolkien, and also adapted from and inspired by Tolkien. Tolkien linguists may also be delighted by the contributions of David Salo, who expanded the lexicon of tolkien's invented languages in the course of his numerous translations for the films and scores.* A wealth of black-and-white artwork from renowned Tolkien artists John Howe and Alan Lee (who also provided an original cover illustration). The book's creators were given access to the entire sketch portfolio which these two artists produced for the LOTR films, and the book includes artwork that's seeing print for the first time anywhere!* Abundant full-color photography and gorgeous film stills.* A comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at the production of the music, featuring insights from composer Howard Shore and others.* The book comes packaged with a CD, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rarities Archive" -- a sweeping and elegant program of never-before-released music which includes early theme mock-ups, amazing alternate versions of important musical cues, and a conversation between Adams and Shore. Here are some relevant links:The official press release: -of-lord-of-rings-films.htmlDoug Adams' blog: Howard Shore's website: The book's Facebook page: -Music-of-The-Lord-of-the-Rings-Films/129646633723585 Amazon sales pages:USA: -Lord-Rings-Films-Comprehensive/dp/0739071572/UK: -Lord-Rings-Films-Comprehensive/dp/0739071572/ Also, here's a large shot of the cover, if you'd like one: _KNv2b5WersE/TB7k8Gtyc7I/AAAAAAAAFLc/zY6ZgM0l2RU/s576/Screen%20shot%202010-06-20%20at%2011.04.25%20PM.png Doug's been doing lots of interviews and PR for the book lately.
